PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the seat of his Tarlton Racing entry over this past weekend, Tommy Tarlton was involved in a wreck on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway before recording an 11th place finish during the Peter Murphy Classic on Saturday night.
With 24 cars on hand on Friday night, Tarlton took a late qualifying draw, and timed his Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son/Tachi Palace and Hotel entry in 18th fastest.
Lining up in the third row of his heat race, Tarlton put together a very strong performance that saw him work his way up to the fourth position, putting him in the seventh row of the feature event.
When the feature went green, Tarlton took a liking to the top-side of the speedway, but in the very early goings of the race, contact ensued from a car getting out of shape in front of him, resulting in the Easton, CA driver getting into wall, and his night coming to an end.
Back in action on Saturday night with the King of the West Series, Tarlton timed his Pabco Gypsum/WFO Apparel/Bandy and Associates entry in eight fastest with 35 cars on hand for the Peter Murphy Classic.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Tarlton quickly chased after the lead duo of Dominic Scelzi and Mike Faria.
Getting by Scelzi for second, Tarlton threw a big slide-job on Faria to take the lead, but contact ensued to the rear of Tarlton’s car that had him facing the front stretch wall, but Tarlton was able to save it, and finish in the third spot.
Coming up short of the Dash, Tarlton lined his machine up in the sixth row of the feature event, and searched for a line to his liking, but couldn’t seem to make anything work.
When the night came to a close Tarlton crossed the stripe with an 11th place finish.
“It was just one of those weekends you hate to have, but you know they’re going to happen during the season,” Tarlton said. “I have to thank Paul Baines and everyone for working so hard on these cars, and hopefully we can come back in a couple of weeks and find ourselves in the hunt.”
Tarlton Racing would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, WFO Apparel, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, Corporate America Investments, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2014 season.
ON TAP: Tarlton will be back in action on August 15th at the Ocean Speedway as he will attempt to lock into the Johnny Key Classic.
