PETERSEN MEDIA- Tommy Tarlton continues to run very well at the Ocean Speedway, and on Friday night, he picked up his fourth top five of the year at the Santa Cruz County Fairground facility.
“We had a good car, and challenged for the lead early, we just came up a little short, but I have to thank Paul Baines and all of these guys for all of their hard work,” Tarlton would say.
Kicking his night off by timing his Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlto and Son, Inc./Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino backed No. 21 machine in eighth fastest, the Easton, CA driver would record a third place finish in heat race action, and find himself eligible for the redraw.
Pulling the four pill, Tarlton would like his Executive Auto Sales/Pabco Gypsum/WFO Apparel backed entry up in the second row for the 30-lap affair, as he quickly moved into the second spot, and chased after the early leader, Brent Kaeding.
While in the second spot, Tarlton would soon feel pressure from Brad Furr, and Shane Golobic, and ultimately slipped to the fourth spot, as the racing was wheel to wheel on the ¼ mile track.
Slipping back as far as the fifth spot in what was a five car tussle in traffic, Tarlton would get back by Brad Furr late in the feature event, as he would claim the fourth spot at the finish line.
“It was a really fun race, with some good battles within the Top-5,” Tarlton said. “The track didn’t do quite what we thought it would, but that’s the fun part of sprint car racing. It has been a good start to our season, and hopefully we can get back in victory lane for our partners this week.”
