PETERSEN MEDIA- Locked into the Johnny Key Classic 50-lap feature event after winning at the Ocean Speedway back on July 8th, Tommy Tarlton would have a strong night on Saturday as he picked up a fourth place finish.
“We had a really good car, and were able to move around,” Tommy Tarlton said. “We got up to second at one point, but a couple of late restarts saw us slip back to finish in the fourth spot.”
With no need to time in or a run a heat race on this night, the Easton, CA driver would pull the three pill during the Dash For Cash draw, and he would finish third aboard the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales No. 21 machine.
By way of his Dash for Cash finish, Tarlton would line up in the second row for the 50-lap feature event. When things came alive, Tarlton would battle with Andy Forsberg as the duo fought for third spot in the race’s opening laps.
Continuing to fight for the spot as the first half of the race moved along, Tarlton would take over the position just before the race reached the halfway point, and the mandatory red flag flew.
Back underway, Tarlton would continue his march forward as he would take over the second spot by the 30th lap and begin to chase after the race leader, Justin Sanders.
While Sanders gapped the field, Tarlton would hook up in an exciting battle with Shane Golobic for the second spot that saw the two drivers move all over the track trying to get the best of each other.
With Tarlton falling back to third on a lap 37 restart, he would then slip back to fourth during the race’s final 10-lap green flag run following a lap 40 restart.
“It was a really fun race, and a really fun track to battle on,” Tarlton added. “This is a race we look forward to every year, so we are a little disappointed to not win, but it’s racing. We had a great car, and again I have to thank my guys and our partners.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, Corporate America Investments, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2016 season.
