PETERSEN MEDIA- Tommy Tarlton showed no signs of rust as he kicked off his 2018 season on Friday night in Watsonville, CA. Biding his time early in the feature event, the Easton, CA driver would get his elbows up as he brought home a seventh place finish with the Ocean Sprints pres. by Taco Bravo.
“To be this fast and have a car that was good enough to come forward like that says a lot about Paul Baines and this Tarlton Motorsports team,” Tommy Tarlton said.
With 27 cars checked into Ocean Speedway on Friday night to kick off the track’s season, Tarlton would time the always-sleek looking Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino/Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc. No. 21 machine in 12th quickest in time trials.
Grabbing a third place finish during his heat race on a surface that stayed extremely fast after being pounded with rain the last few weeks, Tarlton would transfer directly into the feature event where he would grid the field from the 12th starting position.
The track continued to stay hooked up through most of the feature event and most of the field would take a liking to the low groove of the speedway. Running a patient first few laps, Tarlton would soon make his own line as he opted to give the high line a shot.
As passing proved to be tough during the 30-lap affair, Tarlton was able to make some headway as he let it all hang out on the cushion. Able to pick up some positions and race his way inside the Top-10, Tarlton would close his night out with a seventh place finish.
“We had both Tarlton Motorsports cars in the Top-10 on Friday night and that is great for our partners,” Tarlton added. “Looking forward to hopefully getting a couple of nights in this weekend and looking forward to getting this car back up front.”
