PETERSEN MEDIA- Staying busy to open the 2018 season, Tommy Tarlton was in action on Friday night at Ocean Speedway and put on a hard charge to advance from his 15th starting position to score a sixth place finish.
“The track was pretty tricky early in the night with all the rain they had and it made things difficult on us early,” Tarlton said. “Paul Baines worked his tail off to give me a great car and we were able to put on a hard charge in the ‘A’.”
Timing the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales No. 21 entry in 15th fastest in qualifying time trials, Tarlton would line up in the third row of his heat race where he would pocket a fifth place finish as the track was sticky and rough early in the night.
Soundly in the feature event, Tarlton would have his work cut out for himself as he would take the green flag from the eighth row.
Making some big time moves in the early goings of the feature event, Tarlton would jump into 11th on the race’s second lap before taking over ninth on the fifth trip around the ¼ mile bullring.
Moving into eighth on the 10th lap, Tarlton would continue to put on a show as he made some daring moves on the tricky surface. Continuing to fight for each position, The Easton, CA wheelman would find himself up in seventh with sixth to go as he chased after a spot inside the Top-Five.
Getting into sixth on a restart with three laps to go, Tarlton would close in on fifth running Gio Scelzi but would have no time to make a move.
When the checkered flag was displayed to the field, Tarlton would bring his sleek blacked out machine home with a sixth place finish.
“We were really good in the ‘A’, we just had to start too far back,’ Tarlton added. “We will keep working at it and get this thing up front in no time.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Elite Landscape Construction, Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2018 season.
